Engagement Photos in the California Redwoods and Secret Beach - Mariah + Seth

If you’re looking for an epic location for your engagement photos in the PNW, the redwood forest and coast are for you! The California Redwoods are just a 40-minute drive from the Southern Oregon Coast, so it’s a perfect option to capture lots of variety. Keep scrolling to get some inspiration for your engagement session and learn about my favorite spots for photos!

Photos in the Redwoods

Picture this: you’ve just driven into the Redwood National Park, and you’re completely surrounded by the towering redwoods. You walk up to the path, and the scent of the trees and forest air instantly calms you. You hold your partner’s hand and begin to walk in awe under the forest canopy. Our soundtrack is the wind blowing softly in the branches and the gentle birdsong.

We had the forest to ourselves and had such a sweet time walking along the trails and capturing organic moments.

Photos at the Secret Beach

After spending time in the Redwoods, we made a quick coffee pitstop for the beautiful drive along the 101 to the aptly named Secret Beach. While the Redwoods offered a soft backdrop, the cliffs at the coast offer a stunning and moody backdrop for the most epic engagement photos. Even if you don’t have a lot of time to spend at this spot, it’s so worth it for a quick stop to get a couple shots!

What to Wear to your Engagement Session

When it comes to your outfits, I focus on a few key things: Comfort, Confidence, Simplicity, and Movement.

  • Think of the outfits you feel the most comfortable and confident in.

  • Think of the outfits that don’t detract from YOUR beauty and the location.

  • Think of the outfits that allow for multiple poses and are easy to move in.

You don’t have to wear white to your engagement session! I always recommend earth tones that blend well with the backdrop. Before your engagement session, I offer outfit and color ideas so you’ll feel confident in your photos!

Make your Engagement Session a Date or Weekend Getaway!

The Redwoods and Secret Beach are about a 6-hour drive from Portland, so I recommend making your session a weekend getaway! There are some beautiful Airbnb’s in Brookings and Crescent City and campsites so you can spend the weekend exploring the coast and national park.
