Creating a Confidence-Building Environment for Your Studio Branding Session

The era of overedited headshots against a plain white wall with harsh light is over, and honestly, I’m so happy about it! Whether you’re looking to take some updated self-portraits for your business or “just because,” let’s chat about how you can feel confident in the planning process and during your studio branding session! To inquire with Han Kat Studio for your branding photo session, fill out an inquiry form here (I can’t wait to connect with you!).

Create a Pinterest Board with Inspiration

Pinterest is a gold mine for branding inspiration! Some of my favorite searches are “editorial branding photography,” “branding photoshoot inspiration,” and “branding photos for (your field here).” To make it even easier for you, click here for my Branding Photoshoot board!

Comfort is Key! (and actually helps you feel more confident)

The last thing you want to worry about during your session is how your clothes feel; say goodbye to too-tight sleeves and uncomfortable buttons! When choosing your outfits, think about the articles you feel most comfortable in and in complementing colors. Some of my favorite items are oversized blazers, midi dresses, and flowy pants (my tried-and-true pair is the Harlow Wide-Leg Pant from Madewell!)

Bring a Hype Person

Your friends, sisters, and moms have taken enough photos with you to know your “good side” and how to make you feel like a badass. Bring someone along so they can help me direct and hype you up, and then go out for a celebratory glass of wine or mocktail afterward!

I’ll tell you what to do with your hands!

Don’t worry, I got you! I’ll tell you what to do so you don’t end up with stiff and awkward photos. To make things even easier, I always recommend wearing clothes with pockets and bringing props! Some of my favorite props are flowers, your phone, a laptop, coffee mugs or wine glasses, and books. The result: natural photos that also communicate your job or passions.

Listen to your Favorite Bops & Jams

I’d feel anxious too if all I could hear was the camera shutter going off! Before your session, I’ll make a playlist with your favorite songs to help put you at ease (and cover up the sound of the never-ending click!). You can never go wrong with the Barbie soundtrack or some Beyoncé.
